Segment by situation, not just source
A cold content subscriber, a person who requested a quote, and a prospect who missed an appointment are different states. They should not all receive the same sequence simply because their email address entered the CRM.
Build around buyer questions
- What problem am I trying to solve?
- What are the available approaches?
- What will implementation require?
- What does it cost or replace?
- What are the risks?
- What should I do next?
Use behavior to shorten the sequence
If a prospect replies, books or becomes qualified, move them into the appropriate human or appointment process. Continuing generic nurture after a clear intent signal can make automation feel careless.
Choose channels conservatively
Email is appropriate for many educational sequences. SMS is more intrusive and carries consent and carrier requirements, so use it only where the contact has the necessary permission and the message is appropriate for the relationship.
Measure movement, not message count
Useful metrics include qualified replies, appointments, opportunities created, stage movement and unsubscribes. Open rates alone do not tell you whether the nurture is helping the customer or the sales process.
